Respected sir,
here is my response to the task of ‘the birthday party’.
1.       While viewing the movie, we are not clear about the character of lulu because her character was in minor. When she was performing her role at the same time some important thing or situations are going on so our focus goes to another direction rattan than her. So her scenes are omitted in film.

2.       The film version of the play ‘the birthday party’ giving the effect of menace by using some techniques like....
-knocking of door
-toy drum
-ringing bell, etc,....

3.       While viewing the movie we feel the effect of lurking danger. For example:- while in the film Stanley continuously playing toy drum without  any rhyme or rhythm at that time his inner psycho personality reflects. While reading we cannot feel any danger effect.

4.       Reading newspaper is very minor thing which is use in everyday life. But in the play newspaper is used as a symbol of something. It shows mental disability of McCain.

5.       Yes... when the camera positioned on head on McCain who playing blind man’s buff and when Stanley playing it someway we see that they tries to hide reality of human mind and shows dark sides of human being.

6.       Yes.. it happens in movie also the scenes are not changing dialogues were going on in the drawing room mostly dialogues are small. Normally people says that do whatever you want to we are always with you in your support but actually they are not.

7.       Pinter is very well known for his use of writing techniques like:  picturesque, pause, silence, menace, lurking danger ETC...
This all techniques are very well used into the film and also give better understanding rather than reading. Naturally it happens that visual effects are more understood rather than reading and actually we are habituated for that.

8.       I agree with second observation that    “It's impossible to imagine a better film of Pinter's play than this sensitive, disturbing version directed by William Friedkin”.

9.       If i was a director or screenplay writer I will do just one change that,
-I would have focus on clarity of dialogues rather than other things...
10.   If it depends on me to choose characters of the film than I would like to give the characters to these actors:
Stanley: Ranbeer Kapoor
Petey: Amitabh bachhan
Lulu: Alia bhatt
McCain: Arjun Kapoor
Goldberg: Akshay kumar

Thank you....

Movie review of Reluctant Fundamentalist

Reluctant fundamentalist movie directed by Mira Nair (2012) and novel written by Mohsin Hamid (2007). The novel is using the technique of frame story. It is an example of dramatic monologue. In this movie we see that how Pakistani are treated as a terrorist. They always have to prove that they are not terrorist.
Here we find Nero mindset of people for Pakistani. Muslims are portrayed in that novel as well as in movie.
In movie we see that craziness of changez khan for to go America and fulfil his all wishes. He is a protagonist of the movie. Here we see that how much he is mad for live as an American and their life style and also economical condition of their people. He wants to become a rich person and slowly and steadily he touched high point of the success.
At last he give up everything because of Nero mind of people and prove that he is Muslim but every Muslims are not a terrorist.

Thank you....

                      Movie review of Midnight’s children

Midnights children is a book by salman Rushdie that book is deals with condition of India before independence and after independence. This book is very good to understand what post colonialism is.
Film directed by Deepa Mehta. Film version of this movie is quiet easy to understand rather than reading of book. Book is also a very good source but it takes more time to complete. In film just major things are shown in through that point we can easily understand the novel. In that novel we find what types of condition of India, and Pakistan, Bangladesh are also there. Salman Rushdie selected historical things with fictional aspects.
In this movie character of ‘Saleem’ represents as an author himself. The main theme of the movie is ‘magical realism’ which is very significant. Ritual India, social status and ‘birth’ in particular classes these are very important aspect for living life. These things are very well presented in the film. How society treat upper class people and how they change their perspective for lower class people.
Mix exchange of child and how their identities are lost and change. Poor becomes richer and richer becomes poor. Political satire is also there and its effects are shown very symbolically.

Deepa Mehta’s movie mostly stressing upon relationship and magical realism which is associates with post-colonial literature.
Thank You....

short modernist poetry

short modernist poetry

1)
Once, in finesse of fiddles found I ecstasy,
In a flash of gold heels on the hard pavement.
Now see I
That warmth’s the very stuff of poesy.
Oh, God, make small
The old star-eaten blanket of the sky,
That I may fold it round me and in comfort lie.

First, a short paraphrase of the poem: on London’s Embankment (an area well-known for homeless people sleeping rough), a ‘fallen gentleman’ reflects on his past and how he found pleasure in worldly social activities (the ‘finesse of fiddles’ suggesting musical gatherings, such as dances) and beautiful women – probably (given the ‘flash of gold heels on the hard pavement‘) courtesans or prostitutes. But now, down on his luck and most probably sleeping rough on the streets, he realises that warmth is what really matters and is what poets should be singing about. The poem then ends with a heartfelt entreaty to the heavens, with the poem’s speaker beseeching God to make a blanket of the starry sky so that the speaker’s wish for warmth might be granted

2). Darkness.

Darkness.
I stop to watch a star shine in the boghole –
A star no longer, but a silver ribbon of light.
I look at it, and pass on.
In this poem we find night as a symbol of darkness and silver ribbon as a symbol of light or we can say brightness.

3)Forsaken lovers,
Burning to a chance white moon,
Upon strange pyres of loneliness and drought.

Here in the poem depiction of forsaken lover is described. Though there is a white moon in the sky but the loneliness and drought are there in lover’s heart. The feelings are there in between lovers. Though there is white moon and it stands for peace. But the heart of lover’s are burning.

4) "In a station of the Metro"- Ezra Pound

The apparition of these faces in the
Crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough

Ezra Pound described Metro station and people who are on this station. She says that how we become puppets of feeling less life. It talks about the repetitive life of modern people like a living dead.

5) 'The Pool' - Hilda Doolittle
Are you alive?
I touch you
You quiver trembling like a sea-fish
I cover you with my net
What are you- banded one?
Here I can read the sarcasm. Its about overpowering or colonising someone. First it was asked that are you alive or not. Very sarcastically, we can see that no. It is not alive. Because now it is there in the net of somebody. Fish after going in the net, cannot survive for longer.

6) "Insouciance" – Richard Aldington
In and out of the dreary trenches
Trudging cheerily under the stars
I make for myself little poems
Delicate as a flock of doves
They fly away like white-winged
Doves.
--In this poem, poet compares his poems with dove. It flies far away from himself and at last, it becomes difficult to say that it was mine.

7) Morning at the Window - T. S. Eliot

They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaid
Sprouting despondently at area gates.
The brown waves of fog toss up to me
Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts
An aimless smile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.

-- The picture is that of a morning . T. S. Eloit is writing the poem from the point of the housemaid who is constantly engaged with lots of work.

8) “The Red Wheelbarrow”

is perhaps one of the shortest serious poems ever published by an American poet. The structure is rigidly formal. The poem consists of four miniature stanzas of four words each.

so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens.

Three images are involved: the wheelbarrow, described simply as red, the qualifying adjectival phrase “glazed with rain/ water,” which relieves the excessive severity of the second stanza, and the contrasting white chickens of the final stanza. The first line is colloquial and open in its invitation; the second line, the preposition “upon,” prepares the reader for the specifics to follow. Each two-line stanza has two stressed syllables in the first line and one in the second, and yet there is lively variation in where the stresses fall.

9.) Anecdote of the Jar- Wallace Stevens

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.
The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.
It took dominion everywhere.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
Like nothing else in Tennessee.

The poem is about the control over civilization of a state or a place. Here poet discussed about the state “Tennessee” in United States of America. In this poem poet placed a jar on the hill. After some time jar at hill owns the place slowly and steadily. Through this line poet wants to say that how an outsider comes as different place and owns that place or we can say that an outsider made its place on that place slowly and steadily. There is one word “wilderness” which represents the unsettled way of an outsider. There is a phrase “sprawled outsider” which means to spread out in a disorderly fashion.

10.) ‘l (a‘- E. E. Cummings

The title of the poem “A leaf falls on loneliness” shows itself the state of being alone and solitude. There is a word “fall” which represents the state of dullness. It can be fall of civilization, individual’s hope or fall of anything else. If a leaf falls from tree then the fallen leaf become lonely. In Modernist Literature we can see fall of spirituality and also fall of hope. Loneliness represents the separation from the entire world. So here we can say that this poem represents the state of separation from the entire world and also represents the state of self contentedness.

to the lighthouse blog task

Virginia woofs to the lighthouse
here is my response to blow questions:

(3)   Considering symbolically, does the Lighthouse stand for Mrs. Ramsay or the narrator (Virginia Woolf herself who is categorically represented by Lily)? (Key: Take help from the presentation on Symbolism to connect Mrs. Caroline Ramsay with Lighthouse. Secondly, the narrator / author cannot fully disappear from the novel and thus the stoicism of Lily to paint and thus prove that she can paint, is symbolically presented in stoicism of Lighthouse. Read 'lighthouse' symbol from presentation slide with this insight to connect lighthouse with the narrator. Give your concluding remarks in the comment below in this blog )

ans: (3)  Mrs.Ramsay is the central character in the novel. She is very emotional touched with her family as well as for guest. After her death, everything is changed.
Lily Briscoe is another important character of Mrs. Ramsay. We can see that Lily's painting symbolized women's struggle in patriarchal society, against man's belief that “Women can't paint and write”. But Lily prove that “ Women can paint and write”. Lily’s thought process is the thinking process of writer herself.
Lighthouse is a symbolical, like something that gives direction title itself is deeply symbolical or metaphorical. Lighthouse is a symbol for the spiritual hermit; lighthouse is a symbol for the spiritual strength and emotional guidance. both woman character are different in some existence lily Briscoe shown as a strong character and Mrs. Ramsay's character is very emotional and ideal woman.

(7)You have compared the 'beginning' and the 'ending' of the novel and the film adaptation of the novel directed by Colin Gregg (you can see it again in the embedded video below this). Do you think that the novel is more poignant than the movie? If yes, do you ascribe the fact that the power of words is much greater than that of the screen / visuals?

ans: (7)   When we read the beginning of the novel it has effective start like we enter in the mind of characters one by one and in the film it has differently begun with the introduction of the characters. At the end, the confusion of Briscoe has very well described by the narration and in the film it has described by the visual effects of light and sound. Both are effective but we can say that novel has long narration of Lily's dilemma and her vision.

(8)  How do you interpret the last line of the novel (It was done; it was finished.
Yes, she thought, laying down her brush in extreme fatigue, I have had my vision.) with reference to the ending of the film (After the final stroke on the canvass with finishing touch, Lily walks inside the house. As she goes ante-chamber, the light and dark shade makes his face play hide-and-seek. She climbs stairs, puts her brush aside, walks through the dark and light to enter her room. Gently closes the door - speaks: "Closed doors, open windows" - lies on the bed and with some sort of satisfaction utters: "Dearest Briscoe, you are a fool".)

ans : In the novel Lily saw the painting of Mrs Ramsay, she saw an ideal housewife and mother and her confusion of being ideal woman has solved, her blurred vision (Mrs Ramsay as an ideal woman) was clear.

(9)  What does the catalogue named as 'Army and Navy' signifyWhat does cutting of 'Refrigerator'  signify

Refrigerator in Army and Navy Stores catalogue On the one hand it is a tool for conserving food, and as such a symbol of preservation. Refrigerators slow down and stave off decay.  Against that, the refrigerator is also a symbol of change, of technology changing and presumably improving human culture. The refrigerator is an instrument of science, and it occupies the same sphere as the lighthouse. It could be viewed as a domestic lighthouse of sorts.
Refrigerator in Army and Navy Stores catalog  James is guided in his choice by Mrs. Ramsay.  and it should therefore be associated with her, and with her role as a preserver and shape of culture  Mrs. Ramsay is repeatedly shown as someone who is training and shaping her children’s minds, and her approach to her daughters differs from her approach to her sons. She wants her daughters and the women around her to support and sustain men, while she wants the men to be a success in the public sphere.

                        SATAN AND SARASWATI:

The Double Face of English in India

                                                BY - E. ANNAMALAI

When India attained freedom in 1947, the British symbols were replaced but the institutions and instruments were retained. During the prescribed period of 15 years for the complete change of the official language of the union, there was growing political opposition in some states to the progressive use of Hindi for official purposes. In 1963 two years before the deadline, the parliament passed the official language Bill (amended in 1967) providing for the continued use of English without time limit giving legal status to the assurance given by the prime minister Nehru in the parliament to the opponents of Hindi four years earlier. Now English is associate language of the union.
The replacement of English as the medium of education at the primary and secondary stages has taken place for all subjects in a large number of schools, though the English medium is still available, particularly in schools run by private trusts, minority organisations, missionaries and the central government. It is an alternative medium in all stages and union.
After independence, the nationalistic euphoria gave way to the realities of economic reconstruction of the society with its concomitant competitiveness between the different regions and linguistic groups to share its benefits, and of dependence on international powers.
After Second World War, the stature and power of English increased internationally in the political and commercial spheres. English had become more and more indianised grammatically and functionally due to its us by a large number of Indians thanks to increased education, commerce and journalism and the India English was no more foreign.
The reasons for the reluctance to change the medium of English after independence are the same as the ones to introduce it. For i.e., to impart science and modern knowledge and to develop a sense of solidarity with the ruling class.

So we can say that English language has both side positive and negative (saraswati and Satan)

                                                                                                      thank you...

Here i share my analysis of the song from Richards point of view

Chandan Sa Badan Lyrics - Saraswatichandra (1968)

Movie/album: Saraswatichandra (1968)
Singers: Mukesh Chand Mathur (Mukesh) or Lata mangeshkar
Song Lyricists: Indeevar (Shyamalal Ba0bu Rai)
Music Composer: Anandji Virji Shah, Kalyanji Virji Shah
Music Director: Anandji Virji Shah, Kalyanji Virji Shah
Director: Govind Saraiya
Music Label: Saregama
Starring: Nutan, Manish

In this song i tried to applied I.R.Richars figurative language..

चन्दन सा बदन, चंचल चितवन
धीरे से तेरा ये मुस्काना
मुझे दोष देना जगवालों
हो जाऊं अगर मैं दीवाना
(
हो जाए अगर दिल दीवाना
)

in the frist stanza we can see lines says about any persone who is most important than others. Here he campaire her beloved with many other symbols to express his love for her “ chandan sa badan, chanchal chitvan” here we can see human body is not any kind of tree fruit but ‘chandan’ is a symbol of coolness or softness so he campaire her beloved to piece of 'chandan'. By using ‘chandan’ word he express that you are very soft and beautiful

...

in these lines he describe her beauty support with different symbols like ये काम कमान भंवे तेरी
पलकों के किनारे कजरारे it means your eyes are very beautiful its like river near Margo and then other line in your head 'kumkum' like sun here we can see sun is symbols of her 'sindur'. होंठों पे दहकते अंगारे means your smile it gives me a happyness here ‘aangare’ is not a symbol of fire but her smile when ever she smile he became a happy .

...

In third stanza we find that he finally ends his imagination and come to his result and says to her about her beauty तन भी सुन्दर, मन भी सुन्दर तू सुन्दरता की मूरत है here we can see that he tells to her. she is like a beautiful statue created by god.  Next lines he says that other persons need you or not but i want’s you a lot because before it i m waiting for you much longer time now its over i m totally passionless.

Your eyes see me where ever i m. I want what ever you are here other symbols like  अंगारों पे सो जाऊं मैं nobody can sleep in fire its just imaginations of writer.

At last here i tried to interpret my views according to I.R.Richards point of view.
                                                                        Thank you...
